What's inside
-
One tap per lane
Big lane buttons record every split the moment you tap, and every tap is saved to disk before the screen reacts.
-
Pair once, then it just syncs
One screen: show your code, scan theirs, and check that the same six digits appear on both phones. After that, paired coaches find each other automatically every time.
-
Start a race, coaches join
When one coach gets a race ready, every nearby paired coach sees a Join banner on whatever screen they're on. One tap and they're timing too.
-
No lanes assigned? Still works
Skip lane assignments and every coach can time every lane. Other coaches' times and splits show up live as they're recorded.
-
One reader per lane
Once a coach taps a swimmer, the other coaches' buttons for that lane switch off, so you never end up with two records for one swim.
-
iPhone and iPad, one coach
Add your other device once and your swimmers, history and meets stay level between them whenever the app is open on both, with no cloud and no sign-in.
-
Borrow a trusted coach's roster
A new coach can ask a paired coach for the swimmer list, plus the history and meets if they like. Nothing is sent until that coach says yes.
-
Meet PDFs, read on your phone
Import a Meet Program, heats and lanes, or results PDF (HY-TEK style) and FlagLine finds your team's swimmers, seeds, heats and lanes.
-
Race-day board
See events, heats, lanes and seed times, tap Time on any event to start timing it, and let official results reconcile with your stopwatch afterward.
-
Share a swimmer's times
Turn a swimmer's meet results or season bests into a good-looking picture card that parents can post or send to the family chat. Only that swimmer's own times are on it.
-
Parents can follow
Star a swimmer to watch them, then show only their events and heats.
-
Progress for every swimmer
Personal bests, progress charts and consistency per swimmer, with a progress report PDF and CSV export.
-
Built for iPad too
On a bigger screen you get a sidebar, a race preview beside setup, and every lane and split at once.
-
Help on every screen
A friendly tour on first launch and a help button on every page, for the volunteers who'll never read a manual.
The whole idea
Offline by design, not offline “when it can”
Pool decks are concrete, humid and crowded, and cell service and Wi-Fi come and go. So FlagLine never asks for the internet in the first place. It has no server to reach, no account to sign into and no network code at all. A flaky connection can't spoil a race it was never part of.
-
Timing needs nothing
Airplane Mode is fine
Every tap is written to disk before the screen reacts. If the phone locks or the app closes, FlagLine offers to pick the race back up.
-
Sync is phone to phone
No router, no cloud
Coaches' phones talk directly over Bluetooth and peer-to-peer Wi-Fi. There's nothing in the middle to be down, slow or hacked.
-
Dropped out? Catch up
Nothing gets lost
If a phone wanders out of range, it simply catches up when it's back. Every phone ends up with the same times, whatever order they arrived in.
-
Nothing to sign into
No accounts
No passwords to forget on race morning, and no company holding your swimmers' data.
Everything works with no signal. Sharing between coaches uses only the two phones, never the internet.
A closer look
Together
Made for coaches, volunteers and parents
Times and rosters, kept in step, securely
Pairing is a one-time handshake. One phone shows a code, the other scans it, and both show the same six digits to confirm nobody is listening in. After that, phones recognize each other by a cryptographic key, not by name, and a phone you haven't paired can't add a time to your race.
Every time and split is signed by the coach's phone that recorded it and sealed before it travels, so what arrives is what was sent and who sent it. Coach names and swimmer details are never broadcast while phones look for each other.
Coaches see each other's splits live. When lanes are open and two coaches tap the same swimmer, the first tap claims the lane, and every phone agrees on the same winner, so the results page shows one clean time per swimmer.
A new assistant coach can ask a coach they trust for the swimmer roster, with history and meets too if they want. The other coach sees exactly what's being asked for and has to approve it.
OK for kids' swim teams
FlagLine was designed around children's information. It collects nothing from anyone, children have no accounts or logins, and there's no server, so there is nothing of theirs for us to hold, sell or lose.
Parents can use it freely to follow a swimmer through a meet. A swimmer's progress report contains only that swimmer's own times. For a team phone, an optional Face ID or passcode lock keeps it private, and it never locks in the middle of a race.
Friendly to volunteers
Plenty of the people holding the stopwatch are parents who volunteered an hour ago. FlagLine opens with a short tour, puts a help button on every screen, uses plain words, and asks each coach for their name and team up front so every record says who timed it.
It's made for people working side by side: one coach on each end of the pool, a volunteer on the board, a parent in the stands, all looking at the same race.
Why $4.99
Getting a stopwatch right is mostly testing. We simulate dropped, duplicated and out-of-order messages between coaches' phones, stress the pairing and the join flow, and check each screen on small and large iPhones and iPad. The nominal $4.99, paid once, is there to cover all of that, so the app never has to make its money from the kids' data.
Paid apps, just like the old days
FlagLine costs a nominal $4.99, once, and that's how it gets paid for. The price covers the long list of testing it takes to make a stopwatch you can trust with a race, and a phone-to-phone sync that never loses a tap. It does not cover your swimmers' names and times. Those belong to kids, and a “free” app that has to make its money some other way is the wrong place for them. There are no accounts, no ads, no subscription and no tracking SDKs, and the app contains no code that talks to the internet. Timing, meet PDF reading, swimmer history and backups all happen on your device. The only radio it uses is Bluetooth and Wi-Fi straight to another coach's phone at the pool, and only phones you've paired.
